| If your kids have never tried surfing before and you want
them to be introduced to it in a safe and fun environment then our
surf camps are perfect. All our instructors are ISA approved and
have Beach Lifeguard qualifications. In fact our 3 full time
instructors have each life guarded on the local beaches for years.
As well as teaching your kids surfing and ensuring their
safety, we consistently give them small talks on safety at sea and
how to spot potential hazards. This gives them an early grounding
for any time they spend in the sea in the future.
They are also guaranteed plenty of fun. We mix up our surf
lessons with a variety of games in the water and on the beach
depending on the kids. This allows the older kids that are keen to
learn surfing to maximise their time in the water practising their
skills with one instructor while the other instructor can ensure
that the younger kids are occupied and having fun the whole time.
We always operate within a specific kids comfort zone and never
let anyone out to a depth that they are uncomfortable with.
We are well stocked with good quality Alder wetsuits of all
sizes so no one goes without. Also, all our surfboards have soft
tops and soft flexible fins to ensure safety. We have 7 ft, 8 ft
and 9 ft soft surfboards so that we can cater for kids of all
sizes and ages.
At TurfnSurf, we run three types of surf camps for juniors.
In May, June and September we run after school camps once a
week. All you have to do is drop your kid with their towel and
swim suit at the beach or at the pre-arranged pick up point
depending on what area you live in and we'll do the rest.
Typically, we meet at around 5:30 and finish up between 8:00 and
8:30 in the evening. At this stage they'll be exhausted and
probably fall into bed.
In July and August, we run our week long morning surf camps.
This is ideal whether you are resident in the area or on holiday.
Typically, the summer camps start at around 09:30 in the morning
and finish up at around 12:30. This happens on Monday to Friday.
Because the surfing camp is 5 days long, most kids will be
standing up and surfing at the end of the week and will also leave
them with a better appreciation and knowledge of the sea.
Also in July and August, we run day long activity camps that
combine surfing with other fun, activities such as treasure hunts
in the woods, kayaking, crystal maze and history tours. Turf Camp
also runs from Monday to Friday and go from 10a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Pack lunches are required for these days and the campers will be
exhausted by the timer they get home for tea.
All 3 camps are run from bases in Streedagh/Lisadell in
Sligo, Rossnowlagh in Donegal and Portnoo in Donegal. We also run
the After School surfing camp in Strandhill, Co.Sligo.
Finally, be sure to let us know if your kid has any
particular medical condition that we need to be aware of.
Camps are dependent on numbers and can be cancelled due to
conditions for safety reasons.
