Eagle's Rock
Eagle's Rock is a huge stack of rock which over millions of years has become detached from its paternal mountain. The landmark for the beginning of the walk is a ruined cottage just 1 km from the R280 running between Kinlough and Mannorhamilton . A fantastic walk is to use the old path on the east side of Slievebaun to climb up to the top of the plateau. This path meanders through a distinctive U shape valley formed 13000 years ago during the Ice age. Walk in an easterly direction along the cliff top until you can peer out over Eagle's rock. Walk south along this cliff top until you reach a zig-zag path leading down into the valley to the south of the rock.
After exploring the stack up close, make your way over to the forestry track at the end of the zig zag path and walk back along the road to your car. Total walking time is on average 4 hours and be sure to ask the local landowners for permission to use their land.
